Dormitory and Growth

Atalanta has been successfully running programs since 1995. We have not strayed from our mission at all over these years. Progress and improvements have been slow, as is not unusual for this type of project. Though progress has been slower than we would prefer, we have been continually working towards our longer goals by building the foundation that is mandatory to have in place in order to expand on the land.

One of the initial concerns expressed when Atalanta was first established was the difficult access to the land. Years of meetings, legal work and development resulted in an improved private access road that has since been tied into direct access from Road T.

The majority of building on Atalanta land will be on the easternmost 8.5 Acres. This is beneficial for a variety of reasons. The infrastructure will be coming from the east, so it is more cost effective. Access from County Road T and the Baca Grande Property Owners Association off Chaparral comes from the east, making it easily accessible to everyone. Keeping the infrastructure on the 8.5 acres protects our water rights to the garden, a very important part of our sustainability focus.

DORMITORY

We are very excited about building our first dormitory/meeting space. We have been working to establish infrastructure of water, sewer and electric to the land. This process has taken years of negotiation and legal work but we are now ready to move forward!

We have had several interns and volunteers over the years. We have run camps and programs with people of all ages from all over the world. We have stayed true to our mission, our goals and our path and have been extremely successful even without dormitory space. In order to expand these programs we need to begin construction on our first multi-use structure.

The next phase of development is dormitory space for up to 20 guests with facilities (bathrooms, showers, kitchen) and meeting room. This space would be used for Atalanta’s many programs and internships as well as being available for use by the local community and neighboring organizations for overflow.

This building will also be used by the local and regional Subud groups until a designated Latihan space is built. The dormitory space will be used as event space for Subud gatherings.

LATIHAN/SUBUD HOUSE

Atalanta was founded by Joanna Dokson, Subud member since 1975. It was through her Latihan and fasting that she was shown the vision of Atalanta for the world. Atalanta is a project for the greater world with a deep connection to Subud. It is an important part of Atalanta’s mission to have a designated Latihan facility on Atalanta.

RETIREMENT VILLAGE

Atalanta serves people of all generations. Part of the master plan is to provide space for active retirement/independent senior housing. 8 individuals or couples will reside on the property in eco friendly homes with the opportunity to share their gifts and talents while enjoying the many benefits of living in a community. A business plan for the retirement village has been completed.
